I Walked Abroad

Zarafa's first album, recorded in December 2001.

The CD features the band's original line-up of Pin Rada, Mark Planigale, Ashley Jones, and Rivkah Nissim on percussion.

'I Walked Abroad' is a wide-ranging journey through the landscapes of European and Arabic folk music, beginning with the pulsing Near Eastern rhythms of Turkish Village Dance, moving through haunting Greek tunes and the medieval sounds of Miri It Is, and ending with a set of fiery Celtic jigs.

The album is dedicated to all the refugees who have found a home in Australia over the years, and to those refugees who are at present being imprisoned and turned away by Australia's racist and uncaring government.
